How do I check a radiator hose?
Squeeze it when the engine is completely cold. A healthy hose is firm but pliable. If it feels mushy, crunchy or rock-hard, it has degraded internally and should be replaced regardless of how it looks.
Why do hoses fail more quickly in hot climates?
Heat accelerates the breakdown of the rubber compound, and repeated hot-cold cycling works the material at the clamp joints. Sustained high ambient temperatures shorten hose life noticeably compared with milder climates.
