What it does
The constant velocity joint transmits drive to the wheel while allowing it to steer and move with the suspension, keeping rotational speed constant through the angle. It relies on a sealed rubber boot holding grease.
Signs it needs replacing
- Clicking or knocking when turning at low speed

FAQ
What does clicking on turns mean?
A clicking that appears when turning and accelerating, and disappears going straight, is the classic outer CV joint symptom. It means the joint has worn internally, usually after the boot split and let grease out and dirt in.
Can I just replace the boot?
Yes, if you catch it early — before dirt has scored the joint. Once the joint has started clicking the damage is done, and replacing the boot alone will not stop it.
