What it does
The clutch kit couples the engine to the gearbox in a manual car, comprising the friction disc, pressure plate and release bearing. The disc is a wear item whose life depends almost entirely on driving style.
Signs it needs replacing
- Engine revs rise without matching acceleration
- A burning smell after climbing a hill
- Biting point very high near the top of the pedal travel
- Juddering when pulling away

FAQ
How long does a clutch last?
Anywhere from 60,000 to 200,000 km — driving style matters far more than mileage. Riding the pedal, holding the car on the clutch on a slope, and heavy stop-start traffic all shorten it dramatically.
Should the flywheel be replaced with the clutch?
It should at least be inspected. A scored or heat-cracked flywheel will chew through a new disc quickly, and dual-mass flywheels wear internally. Since the gearbox is already out, addressing it then avoids repeating the labour.
