What it does
Glow plugs pre-heat the combustion chamber in a diesel engine so the compressed air reaches ignition temperature on a cold start. They are a diesel-only component with no petrol equivalent.

FAQ
Can I drive with a failed glow plug?
In warm weather a diesel will often start on the remaining plugs, so the fault goes unnoticed until winter. It causes harder starting, more smoke and higher stress on the battery and starter.
Should all glow plugs be replaced together?
Yes. They age at the same rate, and removing them is the difficult part of the job — a seized plug can shear off in the head. Doing the full set once avoids repeating that risk.
