What it does

Engine oil lubricates moving parts, carries heat away from the pistons and suspends combustion by-products until the filter traps them. Its additive package depletes with use, which is why interval matters more than appearance.

Signs it needs replacing

  • Oil level below the minimum mark on the dipstick
  • Dark, gritty oil that smells burnt
  • Ticking from the top of the engine on cold start
  • Oil pressure warning light flickering

FAQ

How often should engine oil be changed?

Fully synthetic typically runs 10,000–15,000 km, semi-synthetic around 7,500 km. Short trips, heavy dust and sustained summer heat all shorten the interval — conditions common across much of Jordan.

What does 5W-30 actually mean?

The first number with the W is cold-flow viscosity — lower flows better on a cold start. The second is viscosity at operating temperature. Use the grade in your owner manual; a thicker oil is not a better oil.
