Coming soon on Lagili — starting in Jordan and expanding across the Middle East.

What it does

The fuel pump delivers petrol or diesel from the tank to the injectors at a regulated pressure. On most modern cars it sits inside the tank, cooled and lubricated by the fuel surrounding it.

Signs it needs replacing

  • Engine cranks but will not start
  • Sputtering at sustained high speed
  • Loss of power under load or climbing
  • A whine from the tank area that is louder than usual

FAQ

Does running the tank low damage the fuel pump?

It can. The pump relies on surrounding fuel for cooling, so habitually running near empty makes it run hotter and shortens its life. It also draws sediment from the bottom of the tank into the filter.

How do I know it is the pump and not the filter?

Both cause power loss under load. A clogged filter tends to come on gradually over weeks; pump failure is often more sudden and is usually accompanied by a change in the whine from the tank, or no priming sound at all when the ignition is switched on.
